The Big Fix 2020:

15 February 2020 was TheBigFix: a day for repair cafes all over the country to celebrate and raise awareness of repairing.  Some of us visited the Chorlton Repair Cafe and met repairers and organisers from Boothstown, Chorlton, Levenshulme and Moss Side, as well as Ben from Congleton who is planning a repair cafe there. It was really interesting to see how other people organise repair cafes and how they manage to have them so often; one couple of repairers help out at 4 cafes a month!

Another great Repair cafe! Thank you to everyone who came along, and particularly to our talented volunteer repairers.  We have got some great photos! Repair Cafe 2019:

We held our first Repair Cafe in October 2019 at St Chad’s in Handforth. We registered with the International Repair Cafe Foundation, based in Holland, who gave us lots of useful information and allowed us to use the Repair Cafe name and logo. They also put us in touch with the Malvern Repair Cafe, who kindly shared advice and paperwork. We planned the Cafe months in advance, putting out publicity on social media and asking for volunteer repairers, and we were delighted with the response! In the end, we had three furniture/general repairers (one complete star in his 90’s), three electricians, four people with sewing machines, two bike repairers and a great team on the cafe. It was a busy morning with repairs to bikes, trikes, teddy bears, furniture and soft furnishings! Many thanks to all of our repairers and volunteers, to Handforth Parish Council for financial support (we had to pay registration with the Repair Cafe, hall hire and an additional levy on our Transition Wilmslow Public Liability Insurance) and to everyone who came along to demonstrate people really do want to fix rather than throw things out.

We’d love to organise another one…..volunteers and ideas most welcome! Link below for pictures of the day: (thanks to Jane Selva).
