Meeting organised by Transition Wilmslow to explore the natural, cultural and perceptual landscape of Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge
Talk by Environmental Consultancy, Countryscape
7.30pm, Tuesday 21st August
Wilmslow Library
The landscape of the town and surroundings of Wilmslow has been shaped by people interacting with the environment. The landscape is more than the physical surroundings; memories and experiences shape the sense of place.
This meeting will introduce techniques and information that can be used to understand how the landscape has been shaped and how the community values it. Deeper understanding of landscape will help to inform sustainable plans for the future.
Jonathan Porter, a landscape ecologist from Manchester-based Countryscape, will give a short talk. He will introduce landscape assessment and practical tools that can be used by the community to understand and celebrate local distinctiveness. He will demonstrate freely available information and maps that can be used to understand the natural and cultural landscape.
The meeting will include open discussion and opportunities to look at landscape maps and publications.
